What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, we collect non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. Our purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how our visitors use our website. From time to time, we may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

We also collect potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on pages or post where commenting is available. We only disclose logged-in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that we use and disclose personally-identifying information as described below.

Cookies

To enrich and perfect your online experience, we use “Cookies”, similar technologies, and services provided by others to display personalized content, appropriate advertising and store your preferences on your computer.

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. We use cookies to help identify and track visitors, their usage, and their website access preferences. Our visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using this site, with the drawback that certain features may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

By continuing to navigate our website without changing your cookie settings, you hereby acknowledge and agree to this website’s use of cookies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (https://analytics.google.com), Monster Insights (https://monsterinsights.com), and similar tools to track anonymous usage of this website. You can prevent the collection of your data in Google Analytics by setting an opt-out cookie, which prevents the collection of your data on future visits to this website. Click here to Opt-out of Google Analytics Tracking.

Infinite Scroll

In order to record page views via WordPress.com Stats (which must be enabled for page view tracking here to work) with additional loads, the following information is used: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Page views will be tracked with each additional load (i.e. when you scroll down to the bottom of the page and a new set of posts loads automatically). A page view event will also be sent to the appropriate Google Analytics account with each additional load.

Gravatar Hovercards

This feature will send a hash of the user’s email address (if logged in to the site or WordPress.com — or if they submitted a comment on the site using their email address that is attached to an active Gravatar profile) to the Gravatar service (also owned by Automattic) in order to retrieve their profile image.

Protect

In order to check login activity and potentially block fraudulent attempts, the following information is used: attempting user’s IP address, attempting user’s email address/username (i.e. according to the value they were attempting to use during the login process), and all IP-related HTTP headers attached to the attempting user. Failed login attempts are tracked (these include IP address and user agent). We also set a cookie (jpp_math_pass) for 1 day to remember if/when a user has successfully completed a math captcha to prove that they’re a real human.

Activity Log

Activity log only records activities of a site’s registered users. To deliver this functionality and record activities around site management, the following information is captured: user email address, user role, user login, user display name, WordPress.com and local user IDs, the activity to be recorded, the WordPress.com-connected site ID of the site on which the activity takes place, the site’s Jetpack version, and the timestamp of the activity. Some activities may also include the actor’s IP address (login attempts, for example) and user agent. Activity tracking includes login attempts/actions, post and page update and publish actions, comment/pingback submission and management actions, plugin and theme management actions, widget updates, user management actions, and the modification of other various site settings and options.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to our website choose to interact with the site in ways that require us to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that we gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who comment on pages or posts where commenting is available to provide a username and email address, and we ask users who complete our contact form to provide a name, email address, and message information so we can respond.

Blog Subscription/Newsletter Sign-up Form

We use MailChimp (https://mailchimp.com/) for our blog subscription/newsletter sign-up form. We collect a name and an email address when the form is used to send updated posts once weekly and only when a new post has occurred. We occasionally send updates about events or news to these subscribers. This information is stored indefinitely. You may request for this information to be exported or deleted, and you may unsubscribe using the link within the email labeled Unsubscribe.

Spiritual IQ Quiz

We use Quiz and Survey Master (https://quizandsurveymaster.com/) for our Spiritual IQ Quiz. Users may choose to provide a name and email address or they may submit only answers for this quiz. Users who provide their name and email address will receive their scores via email. Answers are only shared with administrators of this site. They are stored indefinitely for the purpose of studying trends, but may be deleted at the user’s request if identifying information was provided.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser-user-agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Security

The security of your Personal Information is important to us. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Links to External Sites

Our site may contain links to external sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

We discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to administrators of this site that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on our behalf or to provide services, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those administrators may be located outside of your home country; by using PowerYourDecisions.com, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. We will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than the site administrators, as described above, we disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect our property or rights, or the property or rights of the public at large.

We use Contact Form 7 (https://contactform7.com/) for our contact form and Flamingo (https://wordpress.org/plugins/flamingo/) for contact form information storage.

If you are a registered user this site and have supplied your email address, or if you have contacted us through our contact form, we may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or keep you up to date with what’s going on with our books and services. If you send us a request (for example via an email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish it in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users. We take all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Aggregated Statistics

We may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to this website. We may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, we do not disclose your personally-identifying information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

For users who contact us through our contact form, we store the personal information provided in order to respond to the request and/or provide information about services. This information may be stored indefinitely. Administrators of this site may see this information only if they (i) need to know that information in order to process it on our behalf or to provide services, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, if you have left comments, or if you have used our contact form, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, such as Akismet (https://akismet.com).  Information submitted through the blog post update/newsletter sign-up form is collected by MailChimp (https://mailchimp.com/) and stored on their servers. Information submitted through our contact form is sent via email to the site owner.

Privacy Policy Changes

Although most changes are likely to be minor, we may change our Privacy Policy from time to time. We encourage visitors to frequently check this page for any changes to the Privacy Policy. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
